SFHS Red Devils pull away from Fulton County, 36-8

South Fulton turned a close game at halftime into a convincing victory Fri., Aug. 28, pulling away in the second half to defeat Fulton County 36-8.
The Red Devils took control early and never trailed, but Fulton County stayed within striking distance until South Fulton erupted after halftime.
Quarterback Grant Joyner put South Fulton on the scoreboard with a touchdown run with 2:30 remaining in the first quarter. Gage Hancock added the extra point to give the Red Devils a 7-0 lead.
Brady Parnell extended the advantage to 13-0 with a touchdown run with 1:06 left in the first half. Hancock's extra-point attempt was unsuccessful.
Fulton County answered before halftime when quarterback Preston Smith connected with Davarius Freeman on an 82-yard touchdown pass. Freeman added the two-point conversion, cutting South Fulton's lead to 13-8 at the break.
The Red Devils quickly regained momentum to open the second half.
Hancock took the opening kickoff of the third quarter 75 yards for a touchdown, and his successful PAT pushed South Fulton's lead to 20-8.
Joyner then connected with Copeland on a 91-yard touchdown pass, with Hancock adding the PAT to make it 27-8.
Hancock added to the lead later in the third quarter with a 30-yard field goal, giving the Red Devils a 30-8 advantage heading into the fourth.
Parnell capped the scoring with his second touchdown of the night. Hancock's extra-point attempt was blocked, leaving the final margin at 36-8.
Parnell finished with 98 rushing yards and two touchdowns as South Fulton opened the season with a 1-0 record.
Fulton County, meanwhile, fell to 1-1 on the season.
South Fulton will host the Humboldt Vikings Fri., Sept. 4, while Fulton County will hit the road the same night to take on the Calloway County Lakers.
