Hickman Pecan Festival schedules events, entries sought for contests
Hickman’s Pecan Festival will be held Saturday, Oct. 22, from 10 a.m. – 10 p.m., at Jeff Green Memorial Park on Bernal Avenue, sponsored by the Hickman Recreation Tourism Convention Commission.
This year’s Pecan Festival Bake-Off entries may be dropped off at the Hickman City Park between 7 and 9 a.m., with a $5 entry fee required per item.
All items must be homemade, not store bought, submitted in a covered, disposable container, with items requiring refrigeration will not be accepted.
Winners will be awarded for two age division, Junior (ages 9 – 18), and Senior (ages 19+). Entrants must live in Fulton County, Ky.
All items must contain pecans and participants may be entered in the following categories: Cake/Cupcake, 1/4 of a cake or 4 whole cupcakes; Pie, 1/4 of a pie; Cookie, 4 individual pieces; and Brownie/Bar, 4 individual pieces.
Items will be judged on general appearance, texture and flavor. Winners will be announced Oct. 22, with First, Second, and Third place ribbons awarded in each category and an overall Grand Champion Cash prize to be awarded.
The Bake-Off Registration Form requires the entrant name, address, city, state, phone number, age, and dish name, with forms available at the Hickman Public Library, Hickman City Hall, or Fulton County Sheriff’s Office in Hickman.
Two Magic Shows will be featured at 11 a.m. and 2 p.m.
The characters of Belle from Beauty and the Beast, Mickey Mouse, Olaf from Frozen and Spiderman will make an appearance at the Pecan Festival for pictures and autographs from 11 a.m. – 3 p.m.
A Costume Parade will be held at 3 p.m. with no entry fee required.
Age divisions will be birth – 5 years; 6 – 10 years; 11- 14 years; 15 – 18 years; and 19+ years, with prizes in each category.
A Kid’s Pie Eating Contest will be held at 4 p.m. with no entry fee required. Multiple rounds will be held with first place, only, receiving an award. Age divisions include 5 – 6; 7 – 8; 9 – 10; 11- 12; 13 – 14; 15 – 16; and 17 – 18. A winner will be named in each round.
At 6 p.m., a Pumpkin Carving Contest will be held. Entry fee is not required. Participants must provide their own pumpkin and carved pumpkins with a light or candle included inside must be submitted at Hickman City Park by 5:30 p.m. Age divisions include 12 years and under; 13 – 17 years; and 18 years +. Winners will be awarded in every category.
Over 40 vendors have scheduled to set up in the park during the day.
The American Legion Aubrey Townsend Post #57 will have a booth selling chances on a Mossberg Maverick 26” 20 gauge Pump Camo Shotgun. Tickets may be purchased at the park or by contacting any Legion Member including John Murray, Doc Roberts, Allen Craddock, Butch Barnes, Pete Whitten, Mike Sheehan, Michael Stayton, or David Lattus.
A Foam Party…After Dark will be held from 6 p.m. – 8 p.m. at the tennis courts at the Park.
Other activities during the day will include Bounce Houses, Health Fair, Bingo, Petting Zoo, Face Painting, and free entertainment provided by Samella Watkins, Robert Goodman, Bootcut and Overwatch..
